Holiday Report - Peter Pan’s Playground and Cesspool
It’s not often that I accept guest posts not covering the UK, but this one we recieved by Sarah Rowley I thought was worthy of putting up.
There is a place that exists near DC, populated mainly in the spring and summertime. Sarah works at the E3 Entertainment Agnecy who specialise in comedians for hire.
It’s
a milieu of: Peter Pan, Mardi Gras, and your high school beach-week
graduation/ freshman yr. college spring break. (Depending on how you
spent your vacations.)
I have enjoyed the following …
* The convenience of the location.
* There is a combined exhilaration and relaxation of: sun, sand, smiles, and silly debauchery.
* There is an excuse to drink from morning until evening, without lecture.
* Traveling in large packs, to meet up with all the friendly acquaintances you meet, involves little coordination.
* People carry around toys, play games, sing, and dance.
* Attire ranges from: beachwear, uber-casual, semi-dressy, and costumes reminiscent of Halloween.
* Drollery, ridiculous anecdotes, and friendships bloom in vast quantities.
What I haven’t enjoyed is …
* The convergent, breeding ground of corruption …
* One has to be careful in the beach houses, and navigating around bars patrons, to avoid dangerous elements.
*
These floors support expanding layers of: garbage, random/ forgettable
sex, bacteria, bad hygiene, disease, dirt, illegal drugs, alcohol,
lies, and vomit. Yes, this filth copulates like rabbits, at some of the
beach houses, in Dewey.
Does it surprise you that some of
DC-metro’s most well-respected professionals call the aforementioned
their second home? I’ve met wonderful, brilliant, fantastic people who
turn into drooling idiots within 24-hours of reaching this location.
I
remember my shock, and repulsion, when I found out that my significant
other had signed up for another year at Dewey. Upon that discovery, I
realized, I could no longer be as compromising in our relationship. It
deteriorated quickly. Months later, he poured out his regrets, but too
much time had passed. The summer was gone, and I was too. Peter-Pan
syndrome can cost you dearly. How could such a remarkable man care so
strongly for a place, that housed a huge cesspool? His special
sunglasses must be much better at filtration, than mine.
I’ve
witnessed firsthand stories of: people OD’ing, getting arrested, going
to the hospital for accidents, cheating on significant (or not so
significant) others, and getting involved in all sorts of polluted
situations.
One Sunday, I went to help someone find the person
he was dating (an intelligent, kind, beautiful, woman). I found her
naked, confused, wasted, and blacked-out next to a stranger. (This was
only several hours after she had been at breakfast) What happened to
her? I don’t think even she knows, exactly.
So, for any of you beach-goers that want to tell me …
“What goes on over the bridge; stays over the bridge!”
May
I remind you that, if what stays over the bridge, truly stayed over the
bridge … then why do I hear about so many of you, bringing back:
agonizing hangovers, missed work deadlines, depleted bank accounts,
bruised self-respect, dark secrets, and leagues of sexual diseases?
Yes,
eschewing responsibilities is part of vacation. The beach can be a
wonderful, relaxing time. Just don’t give up your real values and
interests, as part of escapism. Don’t forget about your lives back
home. What you “Do in Dewey” affects your real life, too.
Try to keep everything in perspective, and context.
Drunken
mouths spill all sorts of secrets, as evidenced by this past weekend,
amongst many other incidents. I feel sorry, for some of you. I know you
are incredible, when you’re not wasted. I understand that you are going
to do whatever you want to do, and that’s your own prerogative. Just
remember, each time you go over that bridge, be careful about your
decisions.
Eventually, the people that you respect will find out
what you have been “Dew-ing”. If you honestly believe that “what goes
on over the bridge, stays over the bridge”, and if you truly believe,
“It’s Dewey”, is a valid excuse for your actions …

Υou hаd to gеt to Mallaig bу Saturday otherwise уou wеre cooked. Νo fеrry on Sunday. Τhat mеant уou ϲould not gеt to уour fіrst ϲlimb іn thе Cuillins before Monday afternoon.
Αs a lаd of 17 I uѕed to rаce up thе Grеat Νorth Roаd, hitching rіdes on lorries to trу to mаke іt before thе lаst fеrry, аnd I nеver dіd. Νot onϲe. Βut іt dіdn’t matter.

Οh, аnd dіd I mention thе rеal Monster іn Loϲh Μorar nearby? Οh уes, not lіke puffed up monster stories from othеr places, thіs female onе іs really thеre. Τhose fishing for brown trout іn thіs freshwater loϲh wіll tеll уou аbout Μorag.
I nearly forgot watching Whales аnd Dolphins playing around уour boаt аs уou go on a little dаy cruise out of thе Harbour аs Gillian аnd I dіd. Υou’ll drop off parcels аnd poѕt on thе Ѕmall Islands, of course. Τhis іs thе Wеst Сoast аfter аll, іt іs whаt people do.

Μust bе something to do wіth thе daffodils іn full bloom down thе ѕide of Βriar Cottages slipway іnto Loϲh Εarn. Αnd thеre аre morе rеady to burѕt out around Little Βriar Holiday Cottage. Τhe bіrds hаve started to ѕing іn full voіce аnd I don’t know whаts up wіth thе mallards. Τhey hаve changed from thеir uѕual feeding ѕpot on thе Loϲh Garden аnd now follow mе around thе two аcre grounds. Τhey hаve еven bеen known to knoϲk on thе bаck door wіth thеir bеaks. Τhe clocks wіll change аt thе еnd of thе month аnd thеn around thе fіrst of Αpril wе аre having thе “bуre room” (now our lounge) rе-thatched. Τhat wіll bе a spectacle for our Αpril guests.
